For Colleges and Universities: Offering Continuing Education Units
(CEUs) with Our Courses
Background
Colleges and universities have increasingly recognized new forms of
distance education using the Internet to reach larger segments of learners
than more traditional forms of education. In the past, distance education
was mostly correspondence courses where professors and their students sent
assignments and homework to each other through the mail.
Many institutions of higher education are currently only using the
Internet to take the place of the post office in distance education
causing the structure of the courses to remain the same. However, these
institutions are realizing highly interactive courses developed to teach
content and skills are an effective teaching tool.
By combining the use of the Internet with highly interactive courses,
colleges and universities can better fulfill their mission to provide
quality education and make learning more enriching hopefully enticing more
students to register for courses
Advantages of Our Courses for Colleges and
Universities
Colleges and universities are not interested in simply granting CEUs.
The loftier mission of reaching learners beyond the campus is their real
goal, and they have recognized e-Learning as a valid means to accomplish
their goal. Most colleges and universities understand many potential
students are not interested in receiving a degree, but are seeking
training in a specific area of technology. The courses at getskilled.com
fulfill that need and attract non-traditional students who live far away
from campus, and want to learn on their own time in their own environment.
Colleges and universities are also interested in offering the courses
to their own employees for staff development. A partnership with getskilled.com
and MindLeaders can fulfill that requirement. However, the greatest
advantage we offer colleges and universities is providing existing course
content.
Developing quality courses like ours is expensive and time-consuming.
Since Continuing Education Departments are expected to be profitable, our
existing curriculum should be very appealing to them.
Universities are also quite willing to grant CEUs as a bi-product of
their academic mission, but their emphasis is always on the content and
what is to be learned. This is also to our advantage.
Explanation of the CEU Process
Colleges and universities generally grant CEUs by determining
"seat time" of the learner. Typically the learner attends
classes, workshops or conferences. Based upon the number of hours the
learner attends classes, CEUs are granted. Learners are awarded CEUs by
the providers once establishing attendance for the designated time period.
One Continuing Education Unit is defined as ten (10) contact hours of
participation in an organized continuing education experience under
responsible sponsorship and qualified instruction.
Receiving CEUs for courses at getskilled.com
is different since the learner completes the course away from a site. CEU
providers are typically willing to grant the CEUs based upon a 70% score
on each unit test for a course.
Documents
The number of CEUs is based on the typical time needed to complete
each course. We can provide application and information forms which
can be modified to satisfy any college or university requirement.
